Bringing Plants Into Your Design

Unless your a new reader, you know that I worked as a display coordinator for Anthrpologie.  (If you don't know what Anthropologie is, you must visit a store immediately- creative inspiration will overtake you!)  Anyway, one thing that Anthropolgie developed in me was a love for plants and using plants in design.

Here are a few Anthro photos.  Notice the plants tucked in all sorts of spaces!

At first it was just succulents that I liked (partly because they were the only ones I could keep alive), but now I'm starting to gravitate towards all sorts of plants!  I love the life and organic shapes they bring into a space!

Like most, I love fresh cut flowers, but the problem is that they only stay pretty for a week or two.  Not ideal.  What I've started doing is buying flowers that look good even after they've dried out! There's a lot more bang for your buck with those guys.  Crespedia or Billy Bobs are one of the flowers that keep their color and shape even after they've dried out. Plus, they're adorable! :)

Other than small plants and fresh cut flowers, I love to use house trees as well!  My absolute favorite is the Ficus Lyrata.  It adds a sculptural piece to any design! Love, love!

I am by no means a plant expert, so I know there are so many more greens that are left for me to explore and fall in love with.  Unfortunately, in my own home I have to stick to the plants that are low maintenance and hard to kill.

So, what about you?  What plants do you love to bring indoors to livin' up your space!?  Please, introduce me to some of your favs!

  4. Do you know the name of the little succulent that looks like it has red berries on it in your tray and the name of the plant in the clear bowl?

  5. Money plant! Mine refuses to die. But I'm ok with that, because they are supposed to be really good at cleaning the air.
