Well, another week is starting and what a better way to get things going than an easy and eye catching project?
In the past month, I've put together 5 different wreath ideas. So far we've covered the Year-Round Boxwood Wreath and today I am going over the simple steps required to make this much more modern look!
A lot of times when I'm trying to come up with a project, I'll simply look around at the items that surround me. Now, admittedly I have a lot more random materials sitting around than most people, but I'll bet there are sorts of things surrounding you that would make for great DIY projects. If you are one of those people that somehow keeps a completely clutter free house, walk outside. Nature can provide all sorts of amazing materials for your crafting pleasure!
Anyway, I knew I wanted to create some contemporary Christmas pieces to highlight this year. And since wreaths are pretty much a staple during the Christmas season, I wanted to make sure I had at least one wreath idea for the non-traditionalists out there!
So, I went out to our shop to look around at what we had on hand. Because faceted pieces are so hot right now, I knew I wanted to do something that played on that idea. Originally I loved the thought of a mirrored wreath but felt like the logistics of that were more than I wanted to take on. After I nixed that idea, I started to scan my space for something metallic-y or reflective. My eyes settled on a roll of insulation that we bought to cover the shop's skylights during the hot summer months. You can find this insulation at any home improvement store.
The insulation (which is basically bubble wrap with a silver coating) was a perfect material to create the look I was going for. It is reflective/silver, I could cut it easily, and I could attach it to a wreath form with no problem.
So I got my flat wreath form and cut up my insulation into different sized triangles.
Then I simply hot glued the triangles onto the wreath form. I layered them on top of each other to create a more full and faceted look. Here's how it turned out!
This project took me about 10 minutes and cost me less than $10! The insulation comes in a 25ft roll, so you could cover a lot of square footage if you like this look! :)
So there you have it! A contemporary, faceted wreath ready to adorn your door, wall, window, or mantle! More ideas to come! :)
