Year Round Boxwood Wreath

Happy Wednesday Friends!  Tim and I are at home, sweet home!  We're here in Arkansas ready to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families! Yay!

When we were coming up with year round decorating ideas to present at The Christmas Gathering, I felt like I needed to include some wreath ideas.

I used to think wreaths were only for the winter time and specifically the holidays.  But now wreaths are very much a year round decoration.  There are some people that enjoy crafting and have enough time to complete a new look for each season, but many of us would love an option that requires a little less time, energy, & money.  If you are in the second group, this idea is for you!

A boxwood wreath is a great base for any season.  Weather it's summer or winter, the foliage of the boxwood feels appropriate.  I got my wreath at Target.  You could leave the piece plain or you can opt to spice it up a bit.  Here, adding some extra Christmas spirit was as easy as stringing a few ornaments and magnolia leaves on a piece of twine and tying it around the wreath.

When I'm ready for a new look I'll just untie the twine and whip up something else.  For example, I showed the ladies at The Christmas Gathering an easy idea for a summer look.

To create the "W," I bought: a cardboard letter from Hobby Lobby, navy spray paint, white tape, and jute.

Here are the steps-

1. Spray paint the letter.
2. Use the white tape to create a nautical inspired stripe on your letter.
3. Tie the jute around the letter and make a large knot to further emphasize the nautical feel.
4. Tie the letter onto the wreath.

In no time at all, you will have a beach-y wreath ready for the summer days.

Here are the two looks side by side.

These are only two ideas, but there are a billion ways to make your wreath festive and fitting for the season.  Best of all, it only takes a few minutes and the effort required is much more minimal than creating a whole new wreath for every occasion.  As a matter of fact, with this idea I would be much more likely to change the look more often.

If you're looking for a year round wreath that's a little more unique, stay tuned.  I've got another idea coming at you soon! :)

In case you're too busy to check the blog tomorrow, Tim and I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. I do something very similar to this with my year-round wreath. I bought this great green berry wreath at Hobby Lobby and mix it up for the seasons. For Christmas, I add a big red bow (one of those pre-made ones). For the 4th of July, I add a big American flag bow. It's SO easy, and it makes sense because I haven't found any seasonal wreaths that I like more than my usual one!
