Hey Friends! We finally finished up our last big event for the Holiday season on Friday. We had the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful event called "The Christmas Gathering." Because everything is so focused on Holiday decorating right now, we were asked to present some ideas that could work year round.
One of the ideas we presented was using glass jars to display seasonal decor. Glass jars are definitely staple items. You can literally use them every day of the year for different table top displays. Of course, what you put inside the glass will tell the story of the season and/or of your life!
As you can see from these photos, we did a more traditional set up on the left side of the table and a more contemporary look on the right side of the table. We filled the jars with ornaments, nature, photos, and more.
Of course we love the idea of using a glass jar to make meaningful decor by creating a time capsule.
The glass jars on the contemporary side of the table held our fun DIY crystals.
I think it's fun that these "crystals" remind many of us of Superman's cave (The Fortress of Solitude). I think that duality makes this project perfect because it speaks to both the women and the men in the house! :) It was really fun for me to watch men and little boys walk up to these pieces and be interested in them.
In my opinion, any time you enclose items in glass, you communicate "This piece is important. Look at it." This was the main purpose of the vintage glass bell jars. I love bell jars and have picked up a few over the years at different flea markets. However, I know many people don't have these vintage items ready and available to decorate with. So, here's a quick fix! Simply turn one of your glass hurricanes upside down. You can see that I did that here.
The key to making this look work is to have a base that fits the size of the hurricane. You can see how the metal base here is the perfect size to hold the flipped glass. The fit on the contemporary side isn't quite as perfect, but it still works!
Now I said we were doing a segment on "Year Round Decor." Well, glass jar groupings are great for changing out seasonal decor, but they are also great for displaying collections you have and to tell a story about what your family values! Check out some other ways people have used glass jars to create stunning and story telling vignettes!
