Urban Inspiration

Last week I shared some inspiration from Anthropologie, so this week I thought I would share some eye candy from their sister store, Urban Outfitters!  Urban has a much more hipster/punk rock vibe than Anthro, and it's just as fun to explore!  It's so fun to find inspiration in all sorts of styles.

The "sculpture" that spans this Urban Store in Hollywood is pretty awesome.

It's actually created with the caution fencing you see on construction sites. I love that Urban took this solely functional material and turned into something that is all about form.  I wonder what other cool displays could come from discarded construction site materials. . . .

In the middle of this particular Urban store, the display coordinator created an entire room from old doors and windows.

I love this for a loft like space, but if you don't happen to live in one of those. . . I think this idea would make a killer green house, potting shed, or extra space for entertaining!  Can you imagine filling a structure like that with candle light, plants, and friends!  Oh, how fun!!

This installation made with crisscrossed pieces of wood actually reminds me of a design I did for Ida Red Boutique a couple of years ago!  I am just realizing that I don't think I ever shared those photos!  I'll have to find them and get them posted!

Anyway, I love the almost flannel effect and different tones used in this display.

I know this next display is hard to modify and use in a home setting, but I find inspiring none the less.  I love when you look at a display and wonder, "How in the world is that staying up there?"  :)  I also love how this installation conveys movement as it wraps itself around the space! So cool!

I wonder how many frames that took.

Lately, I been drawn to geometric shapes.  Those large 3-D shapes under the piano are pieces I would definitely use to decorate my home.  I never thought I would use math in real life. . . but I'm guessing I would have to do some calculations in order to DIY that piece.  Humm, sounds like a job for my genius husband. :)

That sci-fi spray paint job is pretty cool too, although I think I'd opt for some different colors if it were for me.

Starburst effects are pretty popular right now, especially with mirrors.  I think you could forgo the reflections if you did an oversized version like these displays below.

Fun, colorful, absolutely impactful, and definitely "DIY-able." ;)

I love starting off a week with great design ideas!  Happy Monday friends! :)

  3. Love these sculptures: they seem weightless, especially being such bright colors. Well chosen wall art can make such a difference!
