Swinging For the Fences!

Remember when I posted this sneak peak picture on Friday?  Today I'm going to tell you what it's all about. :)

Not too long ago, Tim and I read this post on Cathie's Blog.  You really should go read the whole post, but here is a little excerpt Cathie wrote. . .

"Last year, I did an interview with my publisher {{Lark Crafts}} about my Crafty Enthusiasm.  One response in the interview really stands out to me..... I was asked "what I was most proud of in my crafting career" and I responded... "So many things! My TV show, my books, my product lines, my failures and my dare devil attitude towards crafting are all on the top of the list for things I am proud of. If I had to pinpoint one thing I am most proud of, it would be that I have always made a living being creative."

Did you see that?  I said I was most proud of my failures. LOL.  Sounds crazy - but it's true.  Failures mean that I am swinging my glittered bat.  I have been asked many times about my success and I just now realized that having an idea, believing and taking a swing is the key to my success and creative happiness.

Steve and I, have been swinging so hard this past year and I think we are going to the World Series.  I know that no one will ever really know how many misses and strikes we have had.  Or how many glitter tears were shed.  I can tell you we had many misses....but I am counting the home-runs and staying proud of the misses."

Cathie has been an inspiration to both Tim and I.  Her career, her story, and her kindness to us has meant the world to us.  We actually feel bad because we feel like we have so little to offer Cathie for all the help she has given us.  For this reason we've tried to show our appreciation in small ways whenever possible.  Tim recently had a great idea for a way we could to do that. :)

We love Cathie's bat swinging analogy and at the end of her blog post we noticed she wrote- "p.s. I am off to find a bat to actually glitter and hang in the studio."  Well, when we visited Cathie a couple of months ago, we didn't see a glitter bat in her studio.  We figured she hadn't got around to making it with her busy schedule, so we decided to glitter a bat for her!  You know we are suckers for decor with a story, so it was fun for us to get to make this piece for Cathie!

Here's how the bat turned out after about a billion coats of spray adhesive and glitter! :)

I think the piece fits Cathie's sparkling personality perfectly!  We shipped the bat out to Cathie last week, so she should be receiving it any day now.  We hope that the gesture shows a bit of our gratitude and reminds Cathie to keep swinging for the fence!  And we also hope that this post will do the same for you!  Maybe you need to glitter (or paint or engrave or whatever) and hang a bat in your home as well!

Keep your eye on the ball and keep swinging. . . eventually you will make contact!!! :)
