Design Dilemma Solved- High Ceilings=Hard to Paint

Happy Monday friends.  Today is one of those Mondays when I wish I could get back into bed and sleep the day away. . .  but unfortunately that's not going to get me any closer to my goals.  So, I will soldier on and hope that my energy returns at some point.

Today I wanted to address a design dilemma that many of you might have.  I talk to a lot of people who have really tall ceilings and unfortunately the height of a 15ft wall can make them very intimidating to paint.  For this reason, many people opt to keep the color that is already there (usually a boring, builder grade beige).

You can see that before B's living room was all beige and the height of the room made it difficult for the space to feel cozy.

That fact is hiring someone to bring in a super tall ladder or scaffolding would end up costing quite a bit.  But you don't want to be stuck with a color that's just not you, right!?  So, what's the solution?

Easy. . . add some trim!  Adding a chair rail or piece of trim 3-4ft up the wall will create a separation that allows for the easy addition of a different paint color.  Not only will you be able to add color, but the molding will also add a nice layer and additional depth to your design!

By installing dramatic tall curtains, adding our chair rail/molding and using a contrasting paint color we were able to draw your eye to the height of the space, while also making the large space feel cozy.

I love the look of a two toned wall and it can work for every style!  So, if you're intimidated by your tall ceilings, can't afford to hire a professional painter, or just want to add an extra layer to your room, consider adding a piece of molding to your space!

PS- If you're a little more ambitious, you can even opt to install some wainscoting. :)
