Set of Grace Filled Stories

So yesterday Tim mentioned that we decorated a set this weekend.  I always enjoy working on sets, but this job was particularly meaningful for me.  Back in high school, my junior year to be exact, I was just beginning to grasp the concept that God was more than a higher power that deserved my respect.  I was learning that Jesus was in fact interested in the details of my life, and that He didn't just create me but He loved me.  It was around that time that I started reading Max Lucado books.  Max is a great author who writes in a way that really helps you to grasp the truths that he is explaining.  Max's book, "He Chose The Nails" was the book that really helped me to grasp just how "wide, long, high, and deep is the love of Christ" and not just for the world as a whole but for each individual person.

He Chose The Nails

Needless to say, it is a book I highly recommend to everyone.  It will change your life and ceratinly your prospective.

Anyway, you're probably wondering what this has to do with the set we decorated.  Well. . .  Max has recently written a new book entitled "Grace."  And to help readers further engage and understand the text, Max has created a video series to go with the book.  And can you believe it. . .  Tim and I were asked to bring the vision to life!!  I can't tell you what a privlidge it was to be a part of what Max's words will do for others.  It humbles me and gives me great joy to think that God will use Max's stories combined with our visuals to help others grasp the meaning of grace!  As a matter of fact, I think grace is one of the most powerful and possibly most misunderstood topics.  I am very hopeful for how this book and video will touch others.  So, are you ready to see how the set turned out?

The idea was for us to fill the set with tons of props, each which has a story associated with it.  When working on sets, it's important to "overstuff the area."  In real life things look a little cluttered and crammed, but on camera the multiple layers and textures look amazing! :)

I love that each decorative item also serves to tell a story.  This is actually how Tim and I like to decorate for our residential clients as well, whether we hang a juju on the wall to celebrate African heritage or dip dye fabric to speak to the love a client has for the beach- it all helps to create a space that tells your story.

So, I won't tell you all the stories associated with the props- you should buy the book or watch the videos for that- but I will tell you that I love the truth this scale and boy scout sash represents.

Many times in life we try to earn our way into Heaven.  We feel like we are constantly trying to tip the scales in our favor with our good deeds (going to church, volunteering, donating money, ect).  And like a boy scout we are trying to fill our sash with the evidence of our merits.  But, oh how we are so loved by Jesus.  So loved that we don't have to earn His affections, only accept them.  And when we truly do grasp his amazing love, we are changed forever!!!

That's it for today folks!  See you tomorrow! :)

  7. You guys are a constant encouragement to me as I browse your blog each day! I am encouraged by your teamwork as a couple and your pursuit of health and fitness, your superior design eyes (I am so inspired by the wonderful things you create and the way you put them together), but even more than all of that, I am so uplifted by the way you use the gifts God has given you to express your faith to the world. If you do it in your blog, I know you are doing it with the folks you are around everyday! So thank you for reminding me so often to keep my eye on the prize!
