I see what you did there

Kara is sneeky. She figured out that if she told y'all that I would be posting today, I would be forced to write a post. She knows I don't like to disappoint anyone.

After getting an email this week, asking about ideas for displaying photos in a creative and unique way, we realized that we don't really display lots of pictures in our home. Kara said she didn't really know why this was, but I do. She is ashamed of me and doesn't want anyone to have to look at my ugly mug. I can't blame her, but since I am the reason Kara doesn't spend any of her creative ability coming up with ideas to display pictures, I felt a responsibility to come up with some.

So, I started my normal rounds for inspiration... and I ended up looking at lots of furniture. Here it is, 1 a.m. and I am looking at tables without a single picture frame insight. Instead of fighting it I am going to embrace it. I will share with you the neat things I found tonight.

Notcot.org is one of my favorite places to go for inspiration. Not all of it design related, but that is one of the things I love about it. Most of my favorite ideas come from outside the interior design world, but tonight it was furniture on the site that stopped me dead in my tracks.

My interest was piqued by this picture:

Which led me to the website of John Houshmand.

With good reason, he was awarded Interior Design Magazine's Best of the Year, residential furnishings award for this table.

I like that he describes his work as functional art, disguised as furniture.

He selects wonderful material and does enough to showcase it without over complicating.

There aren't any prices on his site, but I am pretty sure it falls under the category of "if you have to ask about the price, then you probably can't afford it." I know most of you will probably just cut down your own tree and recreate these masterpieces yourself, but for those with the cantankerous landlord that prohibits you from making one inch thick glass in your apartment living room, I have other options.

Kara and I recently found two sites that are like the Groupon of the design world. Everyday they have a new batch of limited-time sales. Instead of buying laser hair treatments for your husband's back on Groupon, you can buy this at Fab.com

Or instead of another hour long massage on Living Social you can go to theFoundry.com and get a rusty metal T, so you can always remember your favorite male home design blogger... (John PeTersik, of younghouselove). You don't have to lie, I know it isn't me.

Kara would probably be mad if this was all I showed you, because I picked stuff that I liked, so hear are some of the things I would bet she likes.

If you want to see more awesome internet finds be sure to follow us on Pinterest. I don't know if you can just follow my awesome board, so just do your best to ignore Kara's boring pins without missing any of mine.

Don't worry I am done for this week, but I will be back next week with a tutorial if Kara will go take some pictures! (See what I did there, revenge is sweet!)

  2. Fab.com is dangerous for me- but I did get a huge awesome rug for dirt cheap! And shipping is the same low price for everything.

  3. I love that rusty "T"! Got me thinking, I bet you could do a big letter like that with some beautiful grainy wood. I don't know if yall do anything more for your "Products for Sale" but if you made a big "S", I'd be all over that. Just sayin' :)

  4. haha, you guys are funny. I love fab.com... I haven't ever bought from them... but just looking at the items for sale is sometimes inspiration in itself!

  5. Dana - I keep hinting to Kara, but I guess mine isn't bothering her enough yet.

Rachelle - Speaking of rugs, the day after I posted, the foundry had an awesome "fish scale" rug made of cow hides. We don't have a place for it, but almost got it anyway.

Yanet - We aren't doing any products right now, but if we do I will be sure to make you a "S''

Jenna - We rarely actually buy, but they always have awesome stuff to look at.
