You might have noticed that I took an extra long weekend (as far as blogging is concerned). We wrapped on the movie we were working on and spent some time with all the crew friends we made before most of them had to head out of town. I love working on movies mostly because of the great people you meet and friends you make, but also because I get to design really amazing rooms! These rooms aren't created on a normal time line. No these rooms are created in a matter of days. For this loft space below I had 48 hours from my first time seeing the space to turn the room into sleek and masculine masterpiece! I used nothing from the previous furnishings, so I had my work cut out for me. However, I love turning a space around in such a short amount of time- it's such a rush and I love every minute of it!!!! Ok, so are you ready to see the space? Check it out!
This space needed to feel expensive, masculine, and modern. Using materials like steel and stained wood helped to achieve this. Of course the existing exposed brick and concrete floors fit the theme and really helped as well!
The accessories on top of the coffee table came from Anthropologie. I love the petrified wood piece!
The corner area is probably my favorite because of the Eames chair, the DIY artwork, and Tim's steel pipe table. I really like balance of rustic and sleek here. If you notice, the steel in the artwork speaks to the fabric on the sofa- I love details like that!
The dresser behind the sofa cleaned up very nicely. I can't wait to show you the before and after and how I rejuvenated the tired and worn piece to appear to be in almost perfect condition! Stay tuned for that in the coming days!
I love how it looks as if the coffee table could have been "born" from the rug because of their similar intersecting lines!
You can see that these slanted/intersecting lines are also repeated in the two floor lamps. This helps to tie the space together.
So, that's what I was able to throw together in about sixteen hours of working time! Yeah. . . Design Star's got nothing on me! haha :)

You did an amazing job on this room Kara! I love all the masculine elements. Not a space I'd be comfortable in (without more pillows, throws, and color), but perfect for a movie set and the home of a man!

ReplyDeleteJolene- We got our sofa from Dillard's but I have also seen an exact match at Rooms Today. They maybe a local/regional store.
Jessie- I have not done a tutorial for the art work yet, but I plan to. It is pretty simple. We stained a piece of luan that we had cut to size at lowes and then had our local sheet metal shop cut a piece of hot rolled steel the size we wanted. We used velcro to attach everything. That should be enough to get you going, but if not look for a tutorial with picture sometime soon.

ReplyDeletelooks comfortable, functional and stylish, I would add a couple of large real statement Mid-Century pieces of either ceramic or glass if it was to live in just to give a bit of warmth and character. But for what its for great nice open space and clean lines, whats the movie??
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments! Actually we wanted to keep the room as "cold" as possible to tell the story about our character's state in the movie. But I totally agree- in a real life situation, a little more warm woods would be nice. :)
