  5. Your house is so beautiful! What is the name of the blue paint you used in your dinning room? I've been trying to find a good blue paint and having no luck. I really like the color you used.

  6. I'm with the other anonymous! I would love to know the paint colors throughout your home actually! Any way you could put that together in a post or in the "My Home Section"

  7. So happy to hear you ladies like my house! All of you are welcome any time! :) The paint in the dining room is called Earl Gray from Sherwin Williams. And Amanda, I will work on a section detailing the highlights of each room (paint colors included). Thanks for asking!

  8. Ok, quick question, my husband and I were thinking of trying to make the fence/planter/beautiful backyard installment you made for your yard. Did you stain it, or is it just weathered a bit? I like the dark color :)

  9. Hey Melanie,

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I actually stained the wood with a blue/gray color in the middle and then used a gray colored exterior paint on the outside. I go hope you will try to make this and I would LOVE to see how it turns out when you're done!

  10. Kara,

I love how you use HUGE thick framed mirrors in your rooms (like in the living room and outside wiht the table). How do you make those--where do you get the huge pieces of glass? I would love a tutorial on that because they are soo expensive at PB, etc
THanks for so many great ideas. Love your style

  11. I LOVE the wood on the back wall behind the headboard in your guest bedroom! How what kind of wood did you use for that, and did you stain/paint it at all??

  12. Ok, I have a general question. I am a mom to a 18mnth old baby. And have so many aspirations to finish DIY projects BUT I barely finish the dishes and laundry/mess clean up on a daily basis. How do you make time? Organize your day to do projects? Please help!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hello Anonymous,

Well, I have to say I do not have children and I am constantly amazed by those mothers that somehow manage to carve out time to do projects. I think it's all about figuring out how to involve your kids in the projects. Of course, 18 months might be a little young for that. Also, I would say that when you have limited time, it's important to use what time you do have doing things you love. So, if you love DIY projects, try to carve out time for them, but if they don't bring you great joy and satisfaction, use your precious time for something that does! I know I'm not much help, so sorry!

  14. I LOVE YOUR HOME & all the details you put into it! do you recall where you bought the brown & white chevron print handtowels in your bathroom? LOVE THEM! your home is goregous!

  15. Kara I am curious to know where you got the Huge mirror in the Dining room as well as how did you paint and stencil the dressers drawers in your master bedroom.??

    ReplyDelete
  16. The mirror in the dining room was actually someone's bathroom mirror. I bought it at a garage sail and made the frame for it! I have actually done this for a couple of spaces I have worked on.

For the dresser I painted the entire dresser my base color (the light blue) and let it dry completely, then covered the drawer fronts in tape and used a pencil to draw my design. Once I was happy with it I used an exacto knife to cut out the flower shapes. Then I painted the gold color on the exposed drawer. If you know once coat is going to cover I recommend pulling the tape while the paint is still wet, it tends to leave a cleaner line that way.

Hope this helps, have a great day!

  17. Hey Rebecca,

I got the towels from Ross. I love finding stuff their but unfortunately it usually means I can't ever find it again.

  18. Your house is beautiful, Kara! I really like what you did in your bathroom renovations. We just moved into our house and we need to redo 2 bathrooms...I'm here checking out your blog for ideas :0). I love the sink in the guest bathroom! Where did you find that? Or did you make it?

    Emily

  19. Hey Emily,

I found the actual sink at a garage sale and we made the concrete top it sits on. Send me some pictures when you make some progress. Thanks for reading. I got your email and am working on responding.

  20. I will definitely be posting some pictures when the bathrooms are done! It will be a while though since we are redoing everything ourselves. I love that sink...what a great find! Thanks for sharing!

  21. Is there somewhere on your website where you show details on how you transformed these rooms? I am clueless about what it would take to change a room from blah to beautiful, but I'm in the process of trying.

  22. LOVE the corrugated tin headboard! I had to include it in my top 20 most inspiring repurposed headboards. Stop by and have a look at the post when you get a minute.

  23. Hi Kara-
I absolutely LOVE the style of your house! (I also love Tulsa - went to OSU myself), but now I'm in the big state of Texas. You have done many things that I have envisioned in my own home, but unfortunately, I am one of those that doesn't have the time as I work full-time & have 2 children. I have a question- looking at your before & afters, do you DIY alot of your remodeling, or do you hire out? Thanks for all the inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey Megan,

Thanks for the kind words. Tim and I completed almost 100% of our remodel ourselves. We had some great friends pitch in along the way, but we had our hand in everything. This is what we love doing and we really enjoy working with each other so it was what we worked on most weekends the first couple years we moved into the house. Although this is what worked for us, we are not against, but actually for hiring out things you don't have the time or desire to take on yourself. Hope this answers your question.

  26. Wow, I am so glad that I stumbled upon your blog....you are VERY creative!!!

  27. HeY Kara! Im stealing your headboard idea made from metal roofing. I bought two smaller sheets for my full bed, shears that cut through it, and protective gloves. How were you able to cut that design into your sheet metal?? Help! It's trickier than I thought it'd be.

  28. Just found you via Pinterest. Umm your house rocks. Love the before and afters and I want to come over and drink some tea in your backyard.

  29. Hey Chelsea,

We used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade. We have had some readers report back saying they used sheers to cut out their headboards, but with a curvy design like this it is quite a task. Stick with it, I know you can make it look great.

  31. Saw you on Nate and loved the DIY in your home. I love the coffee filter light. How ever did you make it? It is just what I would like in my bedroom. Going for a soft blue and white in there.

  32. Great job to the house you guys! LOVE everything you do! I saw you on the Nate Show this week and was impressed and wanted to know more right away. Searched around on the internet for awhile b/c the nate show hadn't posted anything, but finally found you. Lovely home, and congrats to you two doing what you love!

  33. Hey Kellie - I am sure you could easily dye some or all of the coffee filters to create whatever color you want. Here is a link to how I made mine.

Thanks Rebecca, I glad that you were able to find us. They said they would have some links on their site, but I haven't seen any yet. Way to be persistent and thanks for stopping by!

  34. I absolutely love your house! I wish I had the skills to do mine like that!

  35. Love all your ideas and artistic taste - you must have had a ball doing this home! It is not only appealing but liveable. I want to make something on my tall patio wood wall like you did in your yard - with planters. I'd fill mine with herbs and flowers... Hope to figure out that design. Any info is welcome!

  36. Where did you purchase the glass shower screen that is in your master bath?

    1. We got it from a local glass shop. Any ol glass shop should be able to hook you up. We installed our own, but I am sure they would do it as well.

  37. I am overwelmingly inspired by every room! I have secretly always wanted to buy an old victoria era home and jazz it up in my own funky style. I have been holding back thinking I could never do it on my humble nursing income but you two prove it can be done with jaw-dropping results. I'm in awe, thank you thank you thank you!

  38. I sent you a message through "contact us", but thought I'd try this avenue too... I saw the article about you in Better Homes and Gardens Do It Yourself magazine. I LOVE the floral area rug pictured in your dining room. I have been looking for over a year for the perfect rug for me, and this is it! Can you PLEASE tell me where you found it? Thank you so much! I haev found the perfect rug at last!

  39. That looks really great. I am also just getting started to completely remodel my apartment. Do you have a post about your process? Do you do a mood board upfront to know what colors and items to pick? I picked up the book "step-by-step home Design and Decorating" which is a great help so far.

    1. Our whole blog kind of chronicles the progress of our house, but we haven't done a great job or grouping all the post in one specific spot. You might try looking through the "MI CASA" category from the sidebar. For most of our personal spaces the process just kind of evolves over time rather than starting from a specific mood board. For clients we usually use a mood board or inspiration piece as the genesis of our design process. Thanks for stopping by!
