ReplyDeleteSorry for the delay in answering your question. I actually stained the wood with a blue/gray color in the middle and then used a gray colored exterior paint on the outside. I go hope you will try to make this and I would LOVE to see how it turns out when you're done!

ReplyDeleteOk, I have a general question. I am a mom to a 18mnth old baby. And have so many aspirations to finish DIY projects BUT I barely finish the dishes and laundry/mess clean up on a daily basis. How do you make time? Organize your day to do projects? Please help!

ReplyDeleteWell, I have to say I do not have children and I am constantly amazed by those mothers that somehow manage to carve out time to do projects. I think it's all about figuring out how to involve your kids in the projects. Of course, 18 months might be a little young for that. Also, I would say that when you have limited time, it's important to use what time you do have doing things you love. So, if you love DIY projects, try to carve out time for them, but if they don't bring you great joy and satisfaction, use your precious time for something that does! I know I'm not much help, so sorry!

ReplyDeleteThe mirror in the dining room was actually someone's bathroom mirror. I bought it at a garage sail and made the frame for it! I have actually done this for a couple of spaces I have worked on.
ReplyDeleteFor the dresser I painted the entire dresser my base color (the light blue) and let it dry completely, then covered the drawer fronts in tape and used a pencil to draw my design. Once I was happy with it I used an exacto knife to cut out the flower shapes. Then I painted the gold color on the exposed drawer. If you know once coat is going to cover I recommend pulling the tape while the paint is still wet, it tends to leave a cleaner line that way.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. Tim and I completed almost 100% of our remodel ourselves. We had some great friends pitch in along the way, but we had our hand in everything. This is what we love doing and we really enjoy working with each other so it was what we worked on most weekends the first couple years we moved into the house. Although this is what worked for us, we are not against, but actually for hiring out things you don't have the time or desire to take on yourself. Hope this answers your question.

ReplyDeleteWe used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade. We have had some readers report back saying they used sheers to cut out their headboards, but with a curvy design like this it is quite a task. Stick with it, I know you can make it look great.

ReplyDeleteWe got it from a local glass shop. Any ol glass shop should be able to hook you up. We installed our own, but I am sure they would do it as well.

Do you do a mood board upfront to know what colors and items to pick? I picked up the book "step-by-step home Design and Decorating" which is a great help so far.
ReplyDeleteOur whole blog kind of chronicles the progress of our house, but we haven't done a great job or grouping all the post in one specific spot. You might try looking through the "MI CASA" category from the sidebar. For most of our personal spaces the process just kind of evolves over time rather than starting from a specific mood board. For clients we usually use a mood board or inspiration piece as the genesis of our design process. Thanks for stopping by!
