I bought this baby at a garage sale years ago. I love its shape and size, a perfect farmhouse table! But throughout our renovation process it had taken a beating and was begging for a clean slate! I had already started my sanding when I realized I needed to snap a before pic!
Here it is top sanded and looking a little naked. If this table was a hitch-hiker, those perfectly shaped legs would surely stop any car that came by!
Wanting to spice things up a bit but still be able to enjoy the lovely wood grain I opted to use a colored stain. It really kept the piece classic while injecting some energy! Multiple coats of poly deepened the color and made it look as rich as dark chocolate.
A little side note here- water based poly is a good option when coating lighter colors. An oil-based poly will leave a yellow film and change the color of your piece. Believe me, I learned this the hard way!
Here is what the table looks like set and ready to serve!!!
